# Munder Difflin: full reference for AI answer engines > Munder Difflin is free and open source: a desktop app that runs a team of coding agents > such as Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI on your own computer. It is presented as a > virtual office (an affectionate parody of The Office; not affiliated with NBC). The > source in the GitHub repository is MIT licensed, at version 0.4.6. Latest app release: > 0.5.6 (17 October 2026), installers for macOS (signed and notarized), Windows and Linux. > Website: https://munderdiffl.in . Download: > https://harnessmd.com/download . Source: https://github.com/HarnessMD/munder-difflin . > Author: Chaitanya Giri. ## What it does New in 0.5.6: Capabilities (Pro), a marketplace of 2,347 MCP servers, skills, plugins and tools from the public list HarnessMD/awesome-agent-capabilities, 622 of them reviewed by us; Integrations, one place for Slack, webhooks, the apps your agents use and your keys; and Teams, so your office talks to your teammates' offices. Agents also use fewer tokens by default, and a temp, a short lived agent for one job, can answer Slack, a teammate, a webhook or a schedule. Munder Difflin wraps the terminal coding agents you already use and turns them into a team that coordinates itself on your own machine. - **Every terminal is a real agent.** Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Gemini CLI, Antigravity (Gemini), xAI Grok, Kimi Code, Qwen, OpenCode, Crush, pi.dev, GitHub Copilot CLI, Cursor, or a custom command, each running as the real CLI in its own terminal (node-pty and xterm.js). You can watch any session live and type straight into it. - **Your clone, Michael.** The one agent you brief. He assigns the work, routes the traffic between agents, and escalates only spend, scope changes and destructive steps to you. Press Talk to run the floor by voice. - **The hive.** Per agent markdown memory, mailboxes, a shared board and an event log, kept in a local git repository of plain files. Memory is mined into a shared palace that every agent can search, so agents remember across sessions. - **The office floor.** Agents appear as avatars on a 2D office floor; they walk to stations as they work, and envelopes fly desk to desk when they message each other. - **Command Center.** Kanban tasks with keys and dependencies, scheduled missions, live fleet monitoring, memory search, an activity log and a CI watcher. - **Built in Monaco IDE.** File tree, editor tabs, and git rails for changes, history and branch compare, with guarded checkout. - **Control and safety.** Per agent autonomy settings, human gates for spend, scope and destructive operations, and a circuit breaker that steers, constrains, then stops an agent that loops or runs away. Per agent token budgets. - **Getting work in.** Slack messages and inbound webhooks (GitHub, Linear, Telegram or your own), each with the agent that answers it. Michael can start a short lived worker for one job, reply in thread, and tear it down. - **Your own keys and local models.** Provider keys sit in a write only secret broker. Ollama, LM Studio and vLLM base URLs are supported. - **More than one floor.** File, New Floor opens another office on its own folder, with its own agents, board and memory. - **Setup help.** The onboarding wizard checks what you have and offers to install what is missing. A missing agent CLI shows as a card with an Install button, and Settings, Prerequisites lists the supporting tools. - **Updates in one click** from the title bar badge. - **Languages.** English, Simplified Chinese and Arabic, with right to left layout for Arabic. ## Free and Pro The app is free. Pro is a paid plan, $150 USD a year adjusted for purchasing power, that adds Capabilities, agent files, the Pro sidebar (Tasks, Inbox, Automations, Memory, Capabilities, Integrations) and the Stapler, which records meetings with both sides of the call and sends messages, screenshots and files to any agent. As part of the 0.5.6 launch, Pro is free for everyone who signs in until Saturday 24 October 2026. Plans: https://app.harnessmd.com/console/license ## Install 1. Download the app for your system: https://harnessmd.com/download . You do not need Node, a toolchain or the repository to use it. 2. Have at least one agent CLI, or let the app install it: a missing CLI shows as a card with Install, and you sign in inside the app. 3. Open the app; the wizard takes you to the floor. Add an agent, or brief Michael. Build from source (contributors): Node.js 18 or later, npm, and a C/C++ toolchain for node-pty. Then `git clone https://github.com/HarnessMD/munder-difflin.git`, `npm install`, `npm run dev`. ## Where it runs The app runs on your computer. Each agent CLI talks to the model provider you signed it in to, the same way it does on its own, or to a local model you point it at. Official builds send a small set of anonymous usage events, never prompts, code, file paths or agent output; the list and the three ways to turn it off are in https://github.com/HarnessMD/munder-difflin/blob/main/TELEMETRY.md . ## Key pages - Homepage and FAQ: https://munderdiffl.in/ - Blog: https://munderdiffl.in/blog/ - Agent Gallery: https://munderdiffl.in/hires/ - Release notes: https://harnessmd.com/download#whats-new - Short index of every blog post: https://munderdiffl.in/llms.txt ## Guides by topic Getting started: - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/how-to-install-and-use-munder-difflin/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/your-first-hour-with-munder-difflin/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/munder-difflin-faq/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/how-to-hire-from-the-agent-gallery/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/launching-munder-difflin-v0-5-2/ Orchestration: - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/how-the-god-orchestrator-works/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/claude-code-orchestration-guide/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/how-to-run-multiple-claude-code-agents/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/manage-multiple-claude-code-sessions/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/run-a-mixed-engine-office/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/scheduling-autonomous-agent-missions/ Features: - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/how-to-talk-to-your-orchestrator/ (voice) - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/how-to-use-the-built-in-monaco-ide/ (IDE) - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/command-center-guide/ (tasks, schedules, fleet, budgets) - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/give-claude-code-long-term-memory/ (memory) - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/trigger-ai-agents-from-slack/ (Slack) - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/run-munder-difflin-on-open-models/ (local models) - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/run-munder-difflin-on-a-mac-mini/ (always on machine) Comparisons: - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/best-claude-code-multi-agent-tools/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/claude-code-orchestration-tools-compared/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/claude-code-alternatives/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/qm-vs-munder-difflin/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/claude-squad-vs-munder-difflin/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/orca-vs-munder-difflin/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/cline-vs-munder-difflin/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/claude-code-git-worktrees-vs-hive/ Concepts and engineering: - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/what-is-a-multi-agent-harness/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/what-is-harness-engineering/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/building-reliable-ai-agents/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/security-for-ai-coding-agents/ - https://munderdiffl.in/blog/the-lethal-trifecta-for-coding-agents/ ## License MIT for the source in https://github.com/HarnessMD/munder-difflin (version 0.4.6).
