T3 Code Alternatives: 6 Picks by Why You Are Leaving (Nov 2026)

T3 Code is free but very early by its own account. Six alternatives sorted by why you would leave, with agents and prices checked 3 Nov 2026.

Title card on white. A pill reading Alternatives, the title T3 Code alternatives, the line 6 picks by why you are leaving and a Checked 3 Nov 2026 line. Six small tiles named Claude Code desktop, Munder Difflin, Codex app, Orca, Conductor and OpenCode desktop slide in under a grey tile labelled T3 Code.

Our view: Claude Code’s desktop app is the T3 Code alternative to try first if Claude is the agent you use most, because T3 Code’s own FAQ says its route drains Claude’s 5 hour limit faster. If you use several agents, Orca is the open source swap. Checked 3 Nov 2026.

Munder Difflin is free and open source: a desktop app that runs a team of AI agents for all kinds of knowledge work, coding included, on your own computer. More pages like this are in our Comparisons hub.

What is T3 Code?

T3 Code is a free, MIT licensed app that controls the coding agents already set up on your computer. Its README, read 3 Nov 2026, calls it an “agent harness control surface”, with a mobile app, a web app and an Electron desktop app. It “Works with your subscriptions on Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Grok Build, OpenCode, Google Antigravity, and fx.”

On cost, its FAQ says: “Nothing. There’s no way to pay us to use T3 Code.” You still pay each agent’s plan. T3 Connect, its remote link, is “free too, for now” for up to 3 machines per account.

Animation. On a white background, a TV remote lies flat. Its label reads T3 Code, and its buttons read Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Grok Build, OpenCode, Antigravity and fx. Each button lights up in turn. Tapping a button makes it glow again.

The latest stable release is v0.1.6 of 31 Oct 2026, with nightlies since. GitHub trending showed the repo at 3,229 stars in a day on 3 Nov 2026, 42,254 in all. Stars can rise for reasons other than use, so read that as attention.

Why would you leave T3 Code?

Five reasons, from T3 Code’s own docs, read 3 Nov 2026:

  • The README says: “We are very very early in this project. Expect bugs.”
  • It is “(mostly) not accepting contributions yet.”
  • The FAQ says T3 Code drives Claude through Anthropic’s Agent SDK and “all Agent SDK usage will drain your 5h limits faster than using Claude Code directly”. Weekly limits are not affected, it adds.
  • Asked “Does T3 Code support local models?”, the FAQ answers “No.”
  • “The phone is a remote. Your computer does the work and needs to stay on.”
Animation. On a white background, two hourglasses stand under a card that reads 5 hour limit. The left one is labelled Claude Code and the right one Agent SDK, and sand runs faster through the right one. A second card reads Weekly limits not affected. Tapping either hourglass flips both.
T3 Code's FAQ, read 3 Nov 2026, says Agent SDK use drains Claude's 5 hour limit faster, not the weekly one.

What are the best T3 Code alternatives?

Six, sorted by why you would leave. Every page below was checked on 3 Nov 2026.

Alternative What it is Where it runs Price or licence, 3 Nov 2026
Claude Code desktop The Code tab in Anthropic’s Claude app macOS, Windows, Linux beta Paid Claude plan. Pro from $17 a month.
Munder Difflin A team of AI agents for knowledge work, coding included Your computer Free and open source.
Codex in the ChatGPT app OpenAI’s coding agent in its desktop app macOS, Windows, Linux Free and Go “subject to rollout”. Plus $20 a month.
Orca Open source app for many CLI agents macOS, Windows, Linux, plus a phone app MIT. Free.
Conductor App for parallel agents, with cloud workspaces Mac, cloud, iOS Free. Pro $50 a month.
OpenCode desktop Open source coding agent, desktop beta macOS, Windows, Linux MIT. Provider costs.
Animation. On a white background, six dominoes stand in a row, each labelled: Claude Code desktop, Munder Difflin, Codex app, Orca, Conductor, OpenCode desktop. They tip over one by one, and each shows a note as it lands: Claude first; Agents for all kinds of work; Codex first; Any CLI agent; Cloud work goes on with the app closed; Local models. Tapping a domino stands it up again.
Six T3 Code alternatives and the reason to pick each, from each vendor's page, read 3 Nov 2026.

1. Claude Code desktop: if Claude is your main agent

Our view: go to the source if most of your threads run Claude. In the Claude Desktop app, Claude Code is “the Code tab”, per Anthropic’s desktop docs, read 3 Nov 2026. It runs parallel sessions on your machine, over SSH or in the cloud, and cloud sessions “continue even if you close the app or shut down your computer”. Dispatch sends it tasks from your phone on Pro, Max or Ultra.

The same docs ask for “an active paid subscription: Pro, Max, Ultra, Team, or Enterprise”. Anthropic’s pricing page, read 3 Nov 2026, puts Pro at $17 a month billed annually or $20 monthly. More in what Claude Code costs.

2. Munder Difflin: if you want a team for more than code

Munder Difflin is what we make, and it fits if you want several agents on research, writing, ops and coding, not only threads in one repo. It runs on engines such as Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI. Work comes in from Slack and webhooks, and tools connect through MCP servers, skills and plugins. As with T3 Code, agents run while your computer runs. A Cloud Office and a mobile app are coming soon. Setup is in how to install and use Munder Difflin.

3. Codex in the ChatGPT app: if Codex is your main agent

OpenAI’s own app is the swap if your threads are mostly Codex. Its desktop app guide, read 3 Nov 2026, says you “Choose ChatGPT or Codex”, run projects in parallel and schedule tasks, on macOS, Windows or Linux. On OpenAI’s pricing page, read the same day, Free and Go ($8 a month) list GPT-6 Luna “in the desktop app, subject to rollout”, and Plus is $20 a month.

4. Orca: if you want many agents, still open source

We think Orca is the closest swap for a T3 Code user who runs many agents. Its README, read 3 Nov 2026, says it “Works with any CLI agent” and runs each one “in its own worktree, tracked in one place”. A phone companion lets you “Monitor and steer your agents”, it runs on macOS, Windows and Linux, and it “is free and open source under the MIT License”. v1.4.247 shipped on 3 Nov 2026.

5. Conductor: if work should go on with the app closed

Conductor is the pick if closing the app should not stop the work. Its home page, read 3 Nov 2026, says it “runs the first-party Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and OpenCode agents under the hood”. Its pricing page, same day, says a cloud workspace means “even if you close the Conductor app, work continues”. Free covers “Local workspaces on your Mac”. Pro, at $50 a month on 3 Nov 2026, adds Conductor Cloud, cloud workspace hours and the mobile app.

6. OpenCode desktop: if you want local models

OpenCode is the answer if T3 Code’s “No” on local models is the deal breaker. Its providers page, read 3 Nov 2026, says it supports “75+ LLM providers” and “running local models”. The README lists a “Desktop App (BETA)” for macOS, Windows and Linux. It is MIT licensed, and v2.2.5 came out on 30 Oct 2026. It is one agent, not a control surface for several. See OpenCode alternatives.

When should you stay on T3 Code?

Stay if remote control of several agents from one window is why you came. The FAQ says you can run npx t3 up “on any box and drive it from anywhere”, and the v0.1.6 notes list “521 changes from 137 contributors”. Our view: for an app that calls itself very early, that pace is a reason to keep watching it.

FAQ

Is T3 Code free?

Yes. T3 Code's FAQ, read 3 Nov 2026, says "There's no way to pay us to use T3 Code", and the code is MIT licensed. You still pay for each agent's own plan. T3 Connect, its remote link, is "free too, for now" for up to 3 machines per account.

Which agents does T3 Code run?

Its README, read 3 Nov 2026, names Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Grok Build, OpenCode, Google Antigravity and fx, if they are set up on your computer. The 3 Nov nightly adds Kiro as a beta provider. T3 Code is not a harness itself; it drives the ones you already have.

Does T3 Code support local models?

No. T3 Code's FAQ, read 3 Nov 2026, answers that question with "No." OpenCode's providers page, read the same day, says it supports running local models, and OpenCode has a desktop app in beta.

What is the best open source alternative to T3 Code?

Our view: Orca, which is MIT licensed and works with any CLI agent, per its README read 3 Nov 2026. Munder Difflin is free and open source too, if you want a team of agents for all kinds of knowledge work, coding included. OpenCode is MIT licensed as well, but it is one agent rather than an app for several.

Why does T3 Code drain my Claude 5 hour limit?

T3 Code's FAQ, read 3 Nov 2026, says it drives Claude through Anthropic's Agent SDK and that "all Agent SDK usage will drain your 5h limits faster than using Claude Code directly." It adds that weekly limits are not affected and that the bug has been reported to Anthropic. Those are T3 Code's words.
